Unbeknown to its customers, McDonald franchisees have been choosing to donate the 5p bag charge that must be given to customers, directly to the Ronald McDonald House Charity UK. This in turn has raised enough for a brand new 25-bedroom home at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

Through the power of film, Ronald McDonald wanted to thank the people who have little to no knowledge of where their 5p tax is going, which is where Top Banana came in. After a competitive pitch, we were chosen by Ronald McDonald to bring their important story to life and share with Scottish customers how their money is now changing the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Thanks to a well-written script from the charity, we could quickly get to work on creating a 3D animation that simply and creatively shared their message. Plus, as the film would eventually be shared in press releases, YouTube and potentially played in restaurants – it needed to be eye-catching, so it gave a great opportunity for the team to be innovative!

To get the ball rolling we sent over illustrations and a storyboard to show how our team planned to bring the script to life. It resonated with the client and we were able to get straight to work. Using a collaborative storyboard website, we could share scene by scene depictions of the animation, voiceovers and music tracks with the client. This element of collaborative working cured the long-distance relationship that might have impacted time scales and it bought the whole film to life for the Ronald McDonald team – giving them an added layer of trust that everything was on track and going to plan! When it came to creating the animation, our Senior Motion Graphic Designer developed characters using a new plug-in that made animations more emotive and responsive, giving an added layer of depth to the film and made it unique to Ronald McDonald. Alison Devlin - Content Producer - Ronald McDonald House Charities (UK), gave us the following awesome feedback... “Really quick to respond, understanding and there to help. Made the process much easier when it's so organised!”
